Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsI am getting the generic of Lyrica tomorrow! I'm sick of my nerve pain which is a result of
Shingles. I had been taking Gabopentin but it just doesn't do the job. I would have taken Lyrica at the get go but it was just too expensive.
I understand that it can make me drowsy so I won't take it before driving cuz I already had a fender bender as a result of taking a dose my doc had as a sample. He had warned me to be careful but I thought that meant not to drink alcohol but since I don't drink I didn't think it was applicable to me. Bad thinking on my part!
I'll let you all know how it works on my nerve pain (PHN is what it's called).

(1,771 posts)over 2 years after quitting it. However, pain sucks and I think anything is worth trying. I have read lots of people who have had success, and lots who have had problems. Just be careful and like I said listen to your body. If it doesn't work for you be careful to taper off very carefully. Good luck! May you be pain free soon.

(3,696 posts)I've been in the benefit administration space for 30 years and have never seen this happen. Usually there is only 1 version of the Generic and the cost for that 1 version is not much less expensive than the Brand version in the first 6 months. With so many choices for patients competition drove the Generic prices down to pennies per pill immediately instead of the $6.00+ dollar cost for the Brand. I hope you have good results with Lyrica. I have talked to folks that swear by the drug.

(25,183 posts)I was prescribed Lyrica ten years ago when I had my only outbreak of shingles. Darned expensive medication.
Since generics are now being made, perhaps you can find this at an online Canadian pharmacy? The legit ones require a prescription. My Protonix was four bucks a pill through my insurance, and only one buck a pill for the generic version from a Canadian pharmacy. When Nexium went over-the-counter, I switched to it with my doctor's approval, and now they have a non-branded generic version that is only about forty cents a pill.
All the best to you on this!
