(47,940 posts)I grew up with those. No other canned beans will do.
My grandmother from Mass would tell about the Friends brothers going down the street selling beans from their horse-drawn wagon.
BTW, America's Test Kitchen's recipe for Boston baked beans is really good. You won't miss the Friends.

(8,203 posts)Grew up on Friends too (retired now to AZ from Mass.)...I will look at America's Test Kitchen's recipe for Boston baked beans..thank you....I have been buying B&M and adding brown sugar, is okay, but NOT Friends..when I did bake beans, I used the recipe on the back of the navy bean package...always a winner... thanks again...

No Pizza Hut's here and the last time I had it was in Belgium probably 6-7 yeas ago.
KFC is here and they sell gravy but it is just on their dodgy mash and not enough of it. They wont actually sell me a tub of only gravy because it isn't in their computer system. I asked.
Kangaroo I know of one restaurant that serves it and it is ok but not the way I'd cook it plus it's fair drive to get there. Not available in any stores I have seen.
It's funny the little things you miss when you haven't even had access to them for 10 years, it may seem trivial but it builds up over time.

I just kept telling him how lucky he was to live in a place with the very best pancake mix in the country!

(59,877 posts)Theoretically, you can now order them online from Sprüngli, but if they're not eaten within a day or two, they're not worth bothering with. The Sprüngli Orange Cake is the same way. Ramseier Süssmost is usually only sold in Switzerland, too.
Then there's the raspberry white chocolate from Wittamer in Brussels, the Jordan almonds from Debauve et Gallais in Paris, Jardine's Texas BBQ sauce (now also online, but not here to Germany).
Tastl's Apricot ("Marillen" ) nectar from the Wachau Valley in Austria. It always floors everyone who tries it (45% fruit content!). It's a small family production, so they will only ship to Austria, Germany or Switzerland.
There is a special kind of creamy (as opposed to brittle) feta cheese made in Bulgaria that I have only seen in my small town near Düsseldorf because one of the stands at our town farmer's market imports it in small quantities and sells it at their stand. I wouldn't even know where to look if I were to go to Bulgaria.
