2. Love Bucket, Little Buddy, and Lucky Bastard

Were all the nicknames I gave to the street cat that adopted me in inner city Houston. After I put a warm box and water out for him one cold night, he went from a skittish presence to in my lap and purring. A sleek mackerel tabby with docked ear just like Ernest, Elbee (like L.B. , as in, "golly, you're a Love Bucket..." ) was a sweetheart that would totally have snuggled up to a barnyard of fellow cuties. My years with him were the best.

So, I've gotta give some love to those critters out there who push the boundaries of expectations and teach us how to be more human. Ernest is a little buddy, and gives me great joy.
