Any recommendations on buying a 'raised toilet seat with handles'?
I can get one from my city Dept of Senior Affairs, but there's a 6 month waiting period.
I'm thinking of something similar to the photo below, but would appreciate any/all helpful advice.
Thanks

(4,158 posts)Get a full commode chair that straddles the toilet.
We had one si.ar to your picture. Mom got a bit dizzy and grabbed one side to steady herself. It slipped and she went down, broke her hip. I don't know for sure if a full commode chair would have been more stable to stop her fall, she was 89 years old. This is just our experience.

(70,023 posts)i actually have one from a former roommate, and would be more than happy to ship it to you if you pm me your addy.
i have a wonderful rheumie, and when rm asked for one, she asked him how high it should be. like the fantastic doc he is, he called on a pro, and figured out how to measure it.
as far as handles, i wonder if it isnt better to have grab bars on the wall. but i guess that depends on your exact needs. this one has no handles. it is super sturdy, tho.
do you have access to ot? they could tell you just what you need.

(2,050 posts)That bolts on to the seat fasteners and uses your seat, it's supported in the back by being across the top of the bottom bowl and had arms that extend to the floor for stability on the sides of the bowl, the frame is steel with aluminum arms
The one in the pic also has the benefit of being taller which aids in getting on and off due to sitting above the height of your knees, sitting below your knees make it much harder to stand up after use
I've been through this once already and will again for family one day
Peace
sorry I can't post a pic

(31,374 posts)I had one like that and it was much more comfortable than the over the commode sit on the floor type that I had post knee replacement. In fact, the one I had for my knee replacement I told my husband to throw the damn thing out! It was very uncomfortable.
I do agree that if someone has balance issues, the over the commode type is probably better since it can't slide off.
I never had a problem with the one like you have pictured not being secure.

(14,488 posts)for my wife with free shipping. It was their Equate store-brand and was around $40, and arrived in about three days.
If you have men in your house, it needs to come on and off easily so males can pee without making a mess on the seat. This one did that really well and my son and I just sat it temporarily over into our bathtub. It locked onto our toilet bowl very securely with the turn of a knob.
Good luck!
