I have an older friend whose doctor prescribed this med. for her severe osteoporosis. She's had many, many fractures. It was approved by medicare, but her co-pay is still in the neighborhood of $700 per month. Tymlos will apparently help with payments, but not if medicare is paying for the drug.
I believe my friend earns less that 20 thousand a year. Any idea where she might turn to help defray the cost?

(2,391 posts)Unfortunately the manufacturer won't help if medicare is paying for the drug and not private insurance.

(2,391 posts)The doctor said he wanted her on this because her osteoporosis is so severe and because she's had so many fractures. I believe he actually wanted her on a drug that runs 30 grand a year but thought he had a better chance of getting this one approved.

(3,696 posts)If your friend only makes $20K she may qualify for additional Medicare Part D subsidies to help with high cost drugs. She can find additional information at Medicare.gov or the link below.
