Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsSongs you wish had been written for you ... a fun Saturday PM topic!
Thanks to Lady LakeArenal for the idea ...
Doesn't matter if it's 'in life' or 'sung at your funeral' or 'written by your daughter 10 years after you pass' ... whatever's clever.
I'll start out with this one ... just cause it's crazy romantic and sweet and I mean who WOULDN'T want this one written for them? Probably been 'our song' at like 100,000,000 weddings lol ... but this live performance is even better than the original ...
Skip to 2 mins if you don't care for the banter ... but it's not bad.

Layla is also a great song ... in particular the rocking version by D&tD ...
And I too would be honored

(48,967 posts)Amazing song, whether the Bee Gees original recording
or the 1969 cover by soul singer James Carr, which is probably the closest we'll ever get to the cover the Bee Gees had hoped Otis Redding would record:

(297,140 posts)My new laptop won't let me post vids or pics.. it's really strange. I have to call Dell tech support again.. and may have to take it back to Costco.

(33,643 posts)A link or pic posted to DU just involves pasting a URL (a collection of characters) ... there's really no way your computer could be responsible for that not working ... unless you literally cannot cop/paste on your computer, which would be beyond bizarre.
Just sayin'.

(297,140 posts)I got my laptop on Nov 1st.. Dell Inspiron laptop with Windows 10 Microsoft Edge(I really didn't know what I was getting into.. I just needed a laptop fast 'cause my other one wouldn't connect to my wifi). I'm just about ready to take it back to Costco next week and get something different.
And, my screen went black tonight and I couldn't even get on.. I called Dell tech and it took us about an hour but she helped me get back on.. with something called a "hard reset".
I told her about the no c/p and she said they're doing different things with computers now.. but she agreed that everyone likes to c/p pics & vids!
I'll call support on Monday and find out if there's something I need to do to get the c/p activated on this laptop.. my sound isn't as loud as I need it, either.. and that's important to me.
Thanks for the reply, Mr Lebowski, so I could unload!

(33,643 posts)One can't copy/paste pics or vids to DU ... all one can do are post links to pics or vids that are already online. Which means it's literally a URL i.e. just a text link ... that just happens to point to a video or picture somewhere on the internet.
There's nothing special about posting a pic or vid on DU, IOW ... if you can't post those, then you wouldn't be able to post here at all basically ...
Try this ... highlight this URL (not truly a url ATM cause it has a space):
youtu .be/JIxRMgTtkf0
then press Ctrl-C to copy
hit reply to my message
title the reply with 'test message'
in the body, hit Ctrl-V to paste the pseudo-url
remove the extra space to turn it into a real URL
hit preview
do you see a youtube video in your preview?
betting you do, but if not, go ahead and post the message, you can remove later.

(297,140 posts)make sense.. but I copy the url and when I "paste" nothing appears. You can imagine my surprise after doing it for 17 years.
Wow! I wasn't going to do it because I'm too exhausted to focus.. but I tried it this way 'cause the other Ctrl didn't work.
I copied the pseudo url with my mouse.. and then pasted it here and eliminated the space.. and voila!
Tested it again..
So how do I acquire the pseudo ursl? And, will it work for pics & graphics?
Thank you!

(33,643 posts)Is one of the two physical Ctrl keys dead, possibly? THAT would be worth returning the PC. Simple check is Ctrl-X (cut) some text with one ctrl key vs the other. Does only one 'cut' the text?
The reason I made a pseudo-url is cause if I posted a proper one, then you'd just see the video, not the text, which wouldn't have illustrated what I was trying to show ya
Basically you just paste a valid URL to a vid or pic (make sure it ends with a common extension like jpg or gif or png). DU understands many common media file extensions, as well as important domains like youtube or youtu.be and some others. The software recognizes these and goes out and fetches the content that's on the web (at the link) and presents it in the post.
If it's MS Edge browser you're unfamiliar with and it's maybe giving you issues, you can also download a different one and use it instead ... chrome, firefox, etc are simple to download, install, and make your default browser ... I think there might even be a Safari for Windows but not sure. I know MS pours it on thick with the YOU SHOULD USE EDGE!!! nonsense, but it's bullshit. Use whatever you want as a browser and tell MS to F-OFF!
In Edge however, to capture a link, right click an image or vid and choose 'copy link'. So if you search 'dog pics' and right-click an image that comes up (it's best to follow the search results link to the actual article w/the pic, not copy direct from a google search result .... optimally you reach a page that JUST shows the pic alone, and copy link from there), choose 'copy link', then right click in a DU message body and choose 'paste' (or Ctrl-V) ... and DU should post the pic for ya (if .jpg/.gif/.png is at end of url) ... which is actually the DU software 'reaching out' to whatever is living at the URL and presenting that rather to the user, rather than just a text URL.
EDIT: I think I may see what the issue is, Edge and its built-in search engine Bing
don't actually make it all that easy to properly copy a link to a Pic. You have to keep clicking until you get to just the pic ... not the pic in the bing image viewer where the URL is like https://www.bing.com/images but where it's JUST the pic, and the url is something dot jpg or gif, and copy the URL to the Pic from the Address bar, not via right click on pic itself.
Or just switch to firefox or chrome

(297,140 posts)this at some point!
They "pour it on" real thick. Thank you for all your help.. so much.
I'll have time to focus on this later today after I get back grocery shopping and chores. I'll let you know how all your invaluable help has panned out!

(66,316 posts)His name is Jim Bianco. He was opening for Concrete Blonde at The Showbox in Seattle. As gritty a band as Blonde can be, I was surprised at how shabby this guy, their opening act, looked when he came on stage. He was wearing a faded old olive drab Army field jacket and carrying a cheap guitar with vinyl strings.
He looked like Concrete Blonde had picked this guy up playing for quarters on the streets of L.A. "Hey, want to open for us?" That kind of thing.
Then he started playing. He sang some bluesy tunes in a gruff, bluesy voice, and I liked him immediately. He gave the impression of a homeless guy who had adapted to life on the streets with a sense of fatalistic optimism.
Then he played "Painkiller". The sheer, raw, aching romanticism of it astonished me. I remember looking over at my brother and his wife as the song ended, and mouthing *wow!*. After the concert, I went over to the merch table and snagged a CD copy of his album 'Sing'. I recommend it highly.

(54,341 posts)And that is just ONE guitar and a bass playing. I've seen him do this live.
I heard your voice at midnight
By the river shore
I saw your child sleeping
Behind an open door
The moon was in the river
Shining up from the floor
And the fish swam like moonlight
Through your child's closing door
And morning is the long way home.
The fisherman was drowning
By his broken heel
His screams were tiny bubbles
And his tongue was made of steel
When he died his teeth made stones
For your lonely child to feel
And his eyes like prayers were quiet
When she heard his tongue of steel
And morning is the long way home.
The ghost of ghosts was passing
And the grasses waved like hair
I Knew I'd die forgotten
I'm the whisper of your care
The water would surround me
And my body would despair
But my heart would understand
The door that's closing there
And morning is the long way home.
