For some reason, I never looked for it, or maybe I did, but didn't know how to look for it.
It all came together in a bout of really, really, really bad insomnia.

Does anyone even bother with symbolic math for this kind of thing anymore?

...and yes, people still bother with symbolic math from what I can tell.
People also, believe it or not, do experiments.
Happily, wonderfully, life has not yet become entirely in silico.
I'm an old man, and I love it when the computer doesn't work.
