Mess hall is open Birds in oven boog the chocolate lab and yogi the Newfie are on guard duty

I was up around 05:00 we’re eating early noon today buffet or Grab and Growl operation on thanksgiving. Two turkeys and a ham. Total chaos here this morning as boog and yogi feel obligated to stand guard over the oven.

They pulled guard yesterday as I baked the other turkey. I told them both when the lady gets up my wife. You two will have to relocate fast she will not need furry helpers in kitchen. These two are funny if one accidentally moves and bumps the other dog I’ll hear growling or see the showing of the bared canines.

Vicious they are not fat heads they are. As I was making my coffee yup growling and baring teeth. I raised my voice you two furry turkeys knock it off. Then I got tail wags and the look he started it first man.

Hope all have a nice thanksgiving

Beagle. He is all about being in the kitchen. Momma's been cooking and prepping since we got home from the SPCA yesterday

I'll bet he's in heaven with all the good food and cooking smells! Give him a big hug for me.

the Thanksgiving tradition is that dinner be served at 1PM sharp...the family usually arrived around 11 so that meant the 23-24 pound turkey had to go in the oven no later than 6 AM...it took us an hour to prepare the bird for the over, cook and mix the stuffing and clean up the debris from the effort so we got up at 5 to do it.

Our dog, Winston, would ignore us as we got out of bed thinking that we would soon return but eventually he would figure out that we weren't coming back to bed and wander down to the kitchen, stand at the doorway and look through the fur covering his eyes with a look that seemed to say "what in the hell are you doing?" Eventually the aroma from the turkey would tip him off to the occasion and he would park himself by the over. My wife would inform him "the bird is in the over" which he understood would mean a feast of "oopsies" from the two of us as well as from the relatives was soon in the offing.

That has changed. The life of a dog is far too short....Sadly..children grow up...and move away...relatives age and pass on...and we grow old.

But we have the memories.

I am not sure that I know how to cook without my 2 counter surfing dogs underfoot. A couple of years ago, my Corgi/Great mix (yes that is right) Elliott went in the kitchen while I took a break from cooking. I heard a big thud. This clown yanked the bird off the counter that was cooling before I could carve it. I ran in and he had a drumstick in his mouth. After saying a curse word or two, I laughed. What else can you do? Now.we just go out to eat on Thanksgiving. Only 3 people in my family, so it is just easier. I will make some grilled chicken for the dogs for their Thanksgiving though.

Happy Thanksgiving to you TEB and Boog and the gang. Next year I may pop in on you and your family with treats for the dogs and an apple for the donkey.lol 💙

Cold and rainy and I'm going through lots of firewood.
We're having standard stuff except instead of turkey or ham,
we're having ribs. It helps to have the oven on all day.
I got a great pic of my son--his graduation from boot camp
was yesterday. Now if I can figure out how to post it.
Have a great day TEB.
