(8,790 posts)Their flush valves, (the thingy that makes the water come into the tank and then shuts off) are poorer quality than several others on the market.
Their toilet flappers, (the gizmo that is pulled up wards by the flush lever) are just ok. If you replace one, you will first have to figure out which flapper it is, from the 5+ different flappers that they use.
And then, if you know exactly what part/model you need, Better order it on the internet because you will have great difficulty finding the part.....
In addition, there are several other toilets that flush better with the small amount of water allowed.
I talked to several residential plumbers and got the same story.
Good luck.

The cold water was a shock at first, but it sure gets you clean.

(36,818 posts)Works quite well. You'll need an electrical outlet near your toilet. I had to install one. That was the biggest part of the job. The rest of the installation was pretty straightforward.

(8,747 posts)I am worried about. It will be in a new apartment, so doing that would be a no-no.

(36,818 posts)The electrical connection powers the control circuits and the heater that heats the water. All the models I reviewed require one. Running an extension cord isn't a great idea.
It might be worth asking the landlord. If you were to hire an electrician they recommend I don't know why they would have an issue with it. Usually it's just a half-day job. In my case I did it myself, but if you have to pay for it that will considerably increase the cost.

(15,805 posts)the additional expense of plumbing in a new hot water line and mixing valves. The toilets only have a cold water supply and the shock of ice water hitting me old bum on a cold winter morn would probably be the death of me.

(36,818 posts)Thats the old way of doing it. Most now are a seat thats an add-on to an existing toilet. The seat requires an electrical connection, but uses a tap from the existing cold water supply. Theres a small tank built into the seat which stores heated water. The added benefit is the seat is heated.
