(3,750 posts)It's one of the few comedies that made me laugh out loud the first time I watched it.
The short-lived TV series Police Squad! (in color!) starring Leslie Nielsen was also exceptionally funny, although you had to pay close attention to catch all the jokes, which may be why it was short-lived.
The humor in that series was similar to Airplane!, another very funny film.

(15,674 posts)I used to watch that once a week in college.
For those who have never seen it - three serial movie actors (Steve Martin, Chevy Chase, Martin Short) are fired from the studio they work for (this happens in early Hollywood in the 1910s). A village in Mexico thinks their movies are real life and send for them to come save them from a gang of banditos terrorizing them, but the actors think it's an acting job.
The line that kills me is when the Amigos are in the house of the family whose daughter sent for them. They're having dinner, and the family is talking about how proud they are to have them there, all the while Chevy Chase's character is having trouble with the tortillas and other food.

Poor Wile...he never gets it right..even though he tries in many ways..and yes, this his first film. At least he doesn't give up in this film. He never does...Yes, he is funny, and no, language and talking is not important in Wile's films. Sound effects are the key. Also, that look on Wile's face as he falls off the cliff chasing Mr. Road Runner is fantastic. Poor Wile....well.........Wile's loss is our gain....
Sorry, if people do not include this, I laughed so hard at poor Wile, so many times, that I wanted to include him..
