2. Well it does tie Christmas in so it's a borrowed ideal

and itís a depiction of a wonder of nature that can bring a feeling of thankfulness. Thanks for appreciating it.

29. I went to a high school that was

probably 70?% jewish... Most of the kids families had a manora (sp?) AND a christmas tree........(of course they called it a Channukah Bush) LOL

Like me and a lot of people, we all looked at Christmas as a Traditional Holiday in spite of all the Christmas carols and christian hype

When ever there was a Jewish Holiday, the halls at school were empty.....LOL I used to kid all my jewish friends that they shouldn't be allowed out of school for the Christmas Holidays......LOL

Of course, the difference between then and now, is that back then we all respected each others religious beliefs and didn't try to cram our personal religious beliefs down other's throats......

enough said......

33. The sad thing is:

Two of my jewish friends, since I was 11 years old, I had to disown as friends after 60 years.......

They kept sending me hateful emails every day about Obama that had obviously been sent to them by The White Supremacy crowd.

I finally asked them, in reply to one of their most despicable Obama emails:

"YOU DO KNOW, that the people sending this shit to you hate Jews worse than Blacks or Mexicans.."????????????

39. No shit

It goes to show just how much this Republican Group has gone to dividing society.........

On the other hand, I'll give you a smile with this:

A good friend from Jr. High and High School that I haven't seen since graduation, (1967) emailed me that he was going to be in Denver and could he buy me dinner? I said sure, he had been a great friend and we sadly weren't able to keep in touch all these years.
We went out to Dinner, and I asked him what brings him to Denver.? He looked at me for about ten seconds then said: There were two friends in high school that had a major influence on me......You and ******, I just wanted to come to Denver and thank you both for being my friend and help guide me through my tough times......

I hadn't ever thought of our friendship other than just hanging out together. Just goes to show you,,,,,doesn't it?

Sorta serendipitous, don't you think??????

You just being you made a difference. It makes you kind of happy to have lived an emotionally and mentally honest life doesnít it. You just never know what unimportant moment will make a difference.

Mom's family were Methodist so my cousins had Xmas trees, so dad got us a Channukah Bush, but I thought he invented the term.

Trees are my earliest favorite subject! And that is what it looks like outside my window right now, bare trees and snow flying. The temp has dropped 20 degrees in the past hour.

They understood light as a primary goal to capture in their renderings. Van Gogh had his own unique vision.

It's just something I've been saying I'll do for 60 years!1 I work best under deadline pressure, so waiting till I croak!1 But your art is incentivizing me more.

Iíll be delighted to illustrate your book! But donít wait for the pressure of knowing youíre dying soon to write it! Remember, youíll probably have to keep editing it before your editor is totally happy with it and then youíll have to do the book tour. You wonít have the time to die!

Edited to be not so snarky. That's an absolutely wonderful picture. And that's what we should worship - nature.

Could you at least offer idealized views with various religious/products underneath?

Baby jesus holding a coke? Or some other religious icon with an AK-47?

The tree is right outside my porch and I can see it through the window. IĎve never seen a bird on it in the winter. I didnít paint it as a holiday thing, but today it occurred to me that I could post it as an atheist wishing everyone a happy season.

Not all atheist are nasty about what people believe. I respect everyone which includes their religious beliefs.

Speaking for myself, without DU to give me feedback all my art would be sitting in my closets just gathering dust.

I retired recently and moved from one state to another. For the first time in years I looked at my art again and perhaps because I hadnít seen it in years I was able to see it as if someone else had done it. I realized it was pretty good. So I started painting and drawing again but now I share it on DU. Iím so grateful to get such positive feedback!

52. I remember

Losing a freind of 10 years because he joined a Fundy evangelical church,he said the church didn't allow him to hang out with non christians. I was a Satanist most the time we knew each other. He had no problem with it,until he was sucked into that church. I was crying my eyes out and he left me as I was crying. I lost several freinds over the years due to christianity. Every time it hurt.
Beautiful painting really captures the barrenness of losing freinds to christianity.

58. I know how painful it is

I lost my sister when she became a Born Again Christian. She said god is jealous and hates gay people so she has to too. I imagine he hates a lot of groups of people. Iím a heterosexual atheist so she wrote me a 3 page letter describing in detail how god was going to throw me into the pit of hell and all the punishments I would receive there for eternity.

It was so detailed that part of me thinks she really enjoyed imagining and writing it. We havenít spoken in 15 years. I doubt we ever will again.
