Perms... the scourge of the 70's

I'm in full reminisce-mode on Boxing Day. My late brother went out and had his hair permed 1977. OMG did we laugh at it!!

A few years later, I (@ 14) did the same thing. No pics (thankfully) but my best friend looked at me (with the roller rows still visible ) and said, "You look like a dog with mange".

For my part, though, I'll exercise my right against self-recrimination.

I had to cover my mouth to breathe and hustle until the smell was gone. Forget going to any nearby stores.

I'd blocked that out of my memory.

I was told that I looked like Roger Daltrey, though I didn't. That's a step up from a mangy dog, I suppose.

I'm surprised all of us victims didn't die of brain cancer. That sh*t could chew thru concrete.

At least you didn't look like a Brillo Pad had nested on your head.

So sometime around 1960 or earlier. It fried my hair - I looked as though someone had run a blow torch over it, damn near singed it. That year my hair was really, really short for my school pictures.

I've never had a perm since.

I ran across this a few minutes ago while looking up posts or threads about fashions from the 70s:

I wonder where those patchwork pants went

Me too. I'd love to have a pair of pants like those.

Perfect disharmony: The ex-New Seekers have fallen out over plans by one of them for a 40th anniversary tour
By PAUL REVOIR FOR MAILONLINE
UPDATED: 20:25 EST, 5 May 2009

Back in those dreamy days of love and flower power, all they really wanted to do was teach the world to sing.

These days, however, the former members of The New Seekers are a little less peaceable.

A decision by one of their number to embark on a 40th anniversary tour under the band's name has created all manner of disharmony.

The extra volume of the curls made it look like they had more hair. Bradley Cooper even had permed hair for his role in American Hustle, which took place in the late 70s/early 80s.
