I am searching the web for products, but wanted to check with people here to see if you have tried anything and if it worked. I have a terrible time either getting to sleep or staying asleep (I think generalized anxiety is the problem) and I was just wondering if anyone has found CBD helpful for this.

(2,188 posts)I didnt have any last night and was awake every hour and was very restless. It's not restful being awake every hour. We need that deep REM sleep. Give it a try, but do your research first. I always get a solid sleep. Best of luck.

(9,650 posts)Thats what generally keeps me up at night. I take a dropper full at bedtime and its good until morning.

(63,221 posts)Even if I am kind of tired, as soon as I shut down the multi-media, the anxiety starts and I can't shut my head down. I think I am going to order some. Do you have a preferred brand?

(9,650 posts)There are tons out there on the market. You might have to try several until you find one that you like.
The Bluebird Complete was the third one I tried.

(40,970 posts)My problem is a little different than yours. I fall asleep fine, but I wake up between 2AM and 3AM and will be awake for two or three hours or more, so now I pop three 'chill pills' and I'm back asleep within the hour, usually. Two pills wasn't enough and with four I woke up groggy. 10mg is a nice dosage to work with.

(63,221 posts)I am really hoping for even just a few hours some nights. There are nights, particularly in the beginning of the week, where I don't really sleep at all. Do you have a preferred brand?
2naSalit
(102,798 posts)a lot of things, including insomnia. I have access to fresh, now dried, plant so I make a tea which does the trick. Sometimes I mix it with lavender leaf/flower for tea and that works really well. Lavender might work w/o the hemp but the CBD will help with pain and swelling issues. I find that in the daytime the tea will help with stamina w/o pain, I love that part.
smirkymonkey
(63,221 posts)extracted CBD might work well w/ out the THC. I will give it a try.
2naSalit
(102,798 posts)a welcome benefit. THC is great is you get a buzz from it but the BDC elements are a different animal. I think you will like it. Do check the potency before you buy anything. Much of what's on the market is make with stock that may have a low CBD concentration so if that info is available, heed it. Average concentration is 3%. If it's lower than that, look for something more potent. It's a generalist herb so it serves many purposes. Good luck!

(11,005 posts)I have the main ingredient, all I need is the recipe.
2naSalit
(102,798 posts)But I have to say this first:
My experience is with two separate crops I helped with, outdoor acreage... So I have two grades regarding the potency. The low grade tests at 3% where the second is 7%. It makes a difference. the high grade stuff is really strong and I can only enjoy a weak solution, like 1/3 the amount of leaf/plant as I would the 3% stuff. They both work only the high grade stuff is more effective IMO.
Tea is simply something steeped in hot water (infusion) so find the amount of plant you want, may take a couple tries, and go with that. There will be a little bitter after taste on the back of your tongue but if you add a little honey or maple syrup it takes care of that unless you make the tea strong. I would start with about a 1/2 tsp of plant per cup of water at first.
So you can use a tea ball or cloth or something to place the plant material in, then pour hot/post-boiling water over it in a cup or pot and let it sit for five or ten minutes then drink it either as a beverage or just sip at it. The effects, for me become noticeable within half an hour, more like 20 minutes or less.
Easier than pie.

(11,005 posts)What I have is really strong. So thank you for the warning, in addition to the instructions.
I can't wait to try it!
2naSalit
(102,798 posts)herbs but try it alone first. If you have processed CBD stuff like oil or tincture, you can just add that to a cup of tea or whatever. It's really versatile stuff.
If it's really strong, dilute it and find the volume that works for you.

(19,745 posts)The company I order them from is CBDFX.
Sometimes they have two for one sales and I load up on them.
Good luck and sweet dreams!
Edit: I meant to add they are vegan and dont contain gelatin.

(12,667 posts)And found it did absolutely Nothing for me.
It did not help me sleep, it did not take away mild pain, it did not make me feel good. It was a total waste of money.
I visited California and bought some ointment with cannabis high in CBD oils in it and it took away my arthritis pain. Too bad it is illegal here in TN.
smirkymonkey
(63,221 posts)I am willing to give it a shot. I am a tough case, but I am hoping it will work. I don't have any pain, but anxiety is my issue and I hope it will work on that. Thank you for your honest opinion!

Me thinks pots a loooooong ways from being legal there.

(12,667 posts)To even allow medicinal cannabis.
And yeah now they have allowed us to buy wine in grocery stores and get this......we can even buy it on Sunday.

(63,221 posts)to be on the safe side I will probably pass on the THC. Also, I would have no idea how to score any weed. I'm sure I could find out if I was determined, but I'm not really. Thanks for the tip anyway!
2naSalit
(102,798 posts)elements the drug tests are for. Canabinoids are canabinoids and if the test for that, CBD will probably show as positive. If they can isolate THC then you're okay. I make salves and oils and tinctures and whatnot and I usually type up a little notice that I give to those whom I give it to that warns them about drug testing. So be aware of that possibility.
smirkymonkey
(63,221 posts)I didn't realize that CBD could show up in a test. I have never been tested, but there is always a chance. Happy New Year 2naSalit!

(102,798 posts)back when I was a road warrior. I was told that canabinoids were found, and I know I was smoking pot so... the C in CBD means Canabin*** whatever. They are fat soluble, mostly, so they stay with you for about a month.

(1,541 posts)I used 1:1 ratio (CDB/THC) drops/cookies/gummies and now tea brewed with ground full strength cannabis (common indica strains with high THC and CBD). Super small doses because otherwise I experience about a half hour of paranoia. The tea was instantly effective and no more of a buzz than a single cocktail. If you are interested I can share preparation and dosage. Good luck. Also, a small dose of melatonin (3mg) helps as well.
smirkymonkey
(63,221 posts)I am going to give it a try and hope it works. If not, I will have to ask my doctor for some serious sleeping pills, although that is a last resort for me. I want to stay away from the THC because I don't really react well to it, but thank you for relating your experience!

(11,005 posts)But it has helped a lot of other things. Pain, anxiety, OCD. I say go for it and see what happens. Everyone is different, and it may help you sleep.
Search around the web, make sure you get a quality product. I use Plus CBD oil, and I'm really happy with it.
I started with the smallest strength they had, and eventually had to move up to the next level of strength.
I have to add, the first night I tried it, I got a great night of sleep. The next night I was awake the entire night. So I switched and started taking it in the morning, and it doesn't help my sleep, but it's pretty amazing stuff.
smirkymonkey
(63,221 posts)hurt. I am sure it will help my general anxiety. My head races at night, and I get fearful suddenly, so if it can at least take the edge off it will be worth it. Thank you for sharing your experience!
Dem2theMax
(11,005 posts)I hope you will have the same experience. I guess it does help me sleep in that way. It doesn't make me sleepy, but it has really calmed my racing brain. So when I'm not laying there thinking of a thousand things, I'm actually able to relax enough to fall asleep.
Good luck, and let us know how it goes. You may have to adjust the dose or the time of day you take it, so you may be tinkering with it for a week or so before you find the right fit for you. Don't get discouraged. It took me awhile to figure out how it best worked for me. I know you can do the same!

(22,215 posts)I tried dispensary quality CBD.
Unfortunately it did not help.
I had a sleep study and it revealed I have a few different things going on that help to explain why I have so much trouble falling and staying asleep.
You might want to pursue this to find out what is going on as it may be something that they have treatments for. Sleep apnea can be part of the problem as can tachycardia.
Wishing you the best for 2020!!

(63,221 posts)I think for me it is a generalized anxiety, but I am wondering if there might be something else so if you want to IM me I would be interested. Thank you and Happy New Year!

(8,514 posts)I can't do edibles or CBD products, but that's just me. Different things work differently for different people. I'd say it's worth a try.
What does work for me is meditation and/or breathing exercises. I've never been a long sleeper, and I hate it. If I get six hours of sleep, it's a pretty good night.

(63,221 posts)feel as if I haven't slept. I should give meditation a try as well. Thanks for your advice!

(8,514 posts)I hope you find relief.
My nightmares would be so horrible, and always about something bad happening to a loved one. I figured I'd be better off awake than having those dreams.
As for meditation, I started with guided meditation on youtube. I got so accustomed to it that I didn't need the guiding, and could do it on my own. I still have problems with sleep sometimes, but nothing like it was a few years ago. I'd go for days without sleep.
I sleep much better now, but I think that getting rid of a hateful husband has a lot to do with that. I didn't realize what a negative impact he had been on my life.
smirkymonkey
(63,221 posts)I also go for days without sleep so I am hoping it will help. I am so glad you finally are rid of your horrible husband and finally have some peace now.

(23,694 posts)I was applying oil and rubbing it in; sometimes I used it sublingually but I did not notice any difference.
Then I found a new ointment at Sprouts which has 500 mg of THC per jar (fairly small jar) When the knee acts up, I rub it in all around the joint and it feels better quite quickly. Also, the other day my lower back was giving me a bit of trouble - a really tired achy feeling in the surface muscles right where they insert into the spine. Rubbed that ointment in and in no time it felt better.

(63,221 posts)my mother who just had knee replacement surgery. We are hoping it helps, but you are giving me hope. I don't want to get my hopes up to much about the CBD oil helping me sleep, but I am willing to try it before turning to a pharmaceutical cure. Thank you for relating your experience! Happy New Year!

(63,221 posts)I probably should, but because the effect is so subtle, it's not something I often reach for. I don't have any pain, so that isn't an issue for me. It's mostly just racing thoughts in my head and the myoclonic jerks that wake me up when I do start to drift off. The CBD prep I just ordered has melatonin in it as well, so I am hoping that will help.
Thanks and Happy New Year CTyankee!

(23,084 posts)the longer I have been doing it, the better it works.
There are lots of kinds of sleep problems - mine is mostly with falling asleep. If I wake up during the night I go right back to sleep. But falling asleep can take me over an hour. I really don't want to take anything that might make me drowsy the next day.
