The Transformation of Young Elephant Gluay Hom

The day of his arrival at Elephant Nature Park was marked by exhaustion and the need for rest, good food and medical attention. Lethargy and a lack of confidence was his daily routine for weeks.

His sojourn with us has seen a wonderful transformation. Today the young boy has almost fully recovered, and he has a vitality in his step that surprises even himself I think. We are so happy to see this beautiful boy with us, full-spirited and free.

Here's the story of his rescue:

This young elephant Gluay Hom having spent years standing on a concrete floor. All legs have injuries which worsened because he never was unchained, now starts a new life at Elephant Nature Park. Gluay Hom arrived to the sanctuary on August 7 ,2019

They deserve better than to be the mascot of you know who, cochroaches would be more appropriate.

So many lived their entire lives chained in circuses and zoos when the species' signature instinct is to walk, to be constantly on the move. I remember my delight as child to see their characteristic swaying back and forth at the circus only to learn later that this is how they mimic the act of walking when they are chained, that instinct being so powerful they must do it in pantomime to keep their sanity.
