5. The toaster!

I have lost track of how many toasters I have purchased, trying to get this issue resolved. I finally found one!

16. During the second toasting, I usually hang over the toaster smelling for toastedness, so I can

catch it before it burns. Occasionally, though, I get momentarily distracted, and within just 1 or 2 seconds--BURN!

Wouldn't you think it would be easy to find a simple appliance that actually does what it's supposed to do?

I think I went through four before I found one that actually works. And good luck trying to find one that doesn't have a horrible chemical smell in it when you purchase it.

I had a somewhat similar experience with olives in a salad. It took me a while before I realized the reason why I couldn't stab them with a fork was because they still had the pits in them!
