and has often taken up the defense of controversial or unpopular people and causes - he says it's for the sake of the law and the Constitution, but more likely it's for the notoriety. I think his representing Trump has nothing to do with ideology and everything to do with being in the middle of an enormous controversy. I guess he doesn't care if he's making completely idiotic arguments as long as he gets to be the center of attention.
