"Let me help. A hundred years or so from now, I believe, a famous novelist will write a classic using that theme. He'll recommend those three words even over I love you."
Who knows the source of this quote? Please don't put the answer in your subject line. Thanks.

(4,305 posts)Captain James Tiberius Kirk, Captain of the starship Enterprise, during a time travel back to the twentieth century,in the Star Trek series. The three words recommended were "Let me help" because he was offering to help this woman.

Although, it was the woman, Edith, who was offering to help Kirk.

(13,767 posts)Kirk spoke the quote, but novel's author was Bonner the Stochastic. In that sense that he inspired it, I suppose Bonner could be be considered the source.
Judges?
p.s. I had to look up Bonner, too.

(3,131 posts)Harlan Ellison wrote the episode. Gene Roddenberry is also listed as a writer with (created by) next to his name.
Thats actually what I was googling when I came across Bonner. I liked that answer until you challenged it.
Is there a prize? Fun way to start the day.

(13,767 posts)Well, Ellison wrote the original script, but I think Blish added the bit about Bonner.
I'm googling it, too. My preliminary results are that Blish added Bonner and had used him in previous (Blish) works. I certainly could be mistaken.
Of course there's a prize. You know that warm feeling you get when you answer a question correctly? You're welcome.
