Living as a diplomatic dependent means your work opportunities are extremely limited. You can basically either work at the embassy taking people's fingerprints or you can find a remote job with a US firm. These are not easy to come by when there's a big time zone difference. But I just found one! It's overnight US time but work hours here in France.
So hopefully this means less night-time hot-takes by me on DU, but holy shit it will be nice to have something constructive to fill my days again.

(9,651 posts)And I'm so jealous that you get to live in a sane country, and I don't.
Enjoy it for all of us!

(54,370 posts)Ask any French native. Most of them will tell you how great a place France would be if it weren't for the French.
Endless transportation strikes, insane taxes (they cheat, and are expected to), ten times as many bureaucrats as they need (and woe is you if you ever need anything from them, or run afoul of any of them). I heard more than one shopkeeper tell me he'd rather be robbed at gunpoint than attacked by a team of lazy/crooked government tax auditors. "At least when I'm robbed at gunpoint, the theft is covered by my insurance!"

But if they're only half sane, they're still ahead of us.

And, you're exposing the Diplomat which also means, our Diplomat! Have you at least had PII Training?
Someone had to say it!

(1,702 posts)to whomever is in the diplomatic corps. ! We need her/him/them...every single one who helps our country doing what seems to many as a "glamorous" job without realizing how difficult it can be. Especially with a MOB boss as #impotus. Thank you, again.
