I wondered how Tiger Woods made it through the 2008 Open

But now I have an inkling.

If I don't know how badly I'm hurt, I carry on.

I THOUGHT I had just a falling ankle sprain.

Guess what? Broke the ends of my tibia and fibia.

BUT staggered into the stores for carryout of TP, rations, etc. ((my version of "you will be snowed in for three weeks&quot )

I'm XXXXXd off because it's almost impossible for me (in NFL terms, "doubtful&quot to be a county pollworker for Super Tuesday. I'm suddenly scheduled for surgery soon so if I'm not nitpicking for a while, you will know why.

Please spare a thought for me.

Tiger's win in 2008 is remarkable. He played through to Sunday tying with Rocco. Then they played 18 holes on Monday where Tiger emerged victorious after 18 holes of neck and neck golf.

He did it on a broken leg!

Take care and here's a heart!

Does a pollworker have to walk around? Or just sit at a table checking names, barking orders, raising hell?

Heal well and fast.

If you are staffing check-in or the ballot hand-out yable, you are mostly sitting, other than to get up and call for the chief if there are issues (e.g. the voter moved).

But if you are telling people you can feed the ballot any which way (other than sideways, folded, spindled or mutilated), you are standing. If there is an actual line to control (as I expect in my precinct during Presidential crush hours) ditto. And everyone is expected to help with set up ((including those XXXXing stand-up ballot marking stations) and teardown.

I somehow don't think an 18-hour day (16 there with an hour before and two hours after the polls, plus home time) is in the cards for me this time, but I might be pleasantly surprised.

Seven months ago, I fell off of a truck and suffered a total tib-fib break--still on crutches from it! Got titanium rods & screws in both bones the full length of the lower leg. So I have a pretty good idea how debilitating yours is! Wishing you a speedier recovery than I'm having! PLease keep us posted on your progress, nitpicker!
