Mama Duck Walks Through High School With Her Babies

That was a really long walk.

3. They are. When my late husband was living in the nursing home, it had a completely enclosed

courtyard. My husband was there for three years and every spring a mama duck would lay her eggs in the courtyard and raise her babies there. There were a lot of trees and shrubbery in the courtyard so there were plenty of hidey holes for them. They were completely protected from land predators and we never saw a raptor hunting from the sky so it was as safe as she could get them. They were so entertaining. When they were old enough, the staff and residents would escort mama and brood to an estuary across the street that was near Lake Michigan. It was like a holiday. It was awesome.
