Thanks for sharing this poignant story with us, marble falls. So much will be lost if we don't share this history. This story touches a very raw spot for me.

My mother was one of 9 blacks to buy a home in a previously all white neighborhood. This wasn't the 1920s, it was 1990. While the neighbors did not throw stones through our windows, they did kick in our door and spray painted "go home niggers" on the back of our home. The sheriffs were of no assistance and actually asked mom to show them proof she was the home owner. Long story short, it's still our forever home, though mom now lives alone. The neighborhood has changed much, for the better. Neighbors now look out for each other, though it was a very (veeeery) long journey.

Again, thank you for your post.

I am so glad your mom held on and held out. We all deserve a place of our own.

But even if he hadn't been educated, the way he and his family were treated was disgusting. What makes me angry, is stuff like that is still going on today, almost 100 years later.

And there are many more such examples.
