(22,283 posts)I had to put down my sweetheart Echo in Dec. after 10 years of love and
companionship. She was a rescue, and I really miss her SO much!
I'm happy to see a great dog get a happy life with a loving family!!

(23,820 posts)...is right, there will be another rescue who touches your heart in his or her own special way. I hope so.

(84 posts)I've been looking and thinking about it..
I will when I'm ready...
She really helped me with my depression, and sadness.
It's so much worse now. Need to think hard about a replacement.

(23,820 posts)...was 5. Im 68 now. I almost always want to open my heart to another, in fairly short order, when Ive had to say farewell to one. It gives the love, now just sort of floating free with no one to attach to, a new place to anchor.
I call them successors, rather than replacements. One of my favorite vets said that offering a loving home to a new four-legged friend is not a all disloyal but rather is the best way to honor a departed critter - give someone else the same good life that you gave the predecessor.

(84 posts)I'm thinking hard on this.
I had a wonderful GSD, Maxi for many years who died in 2002.
It took me a while to get Echo, and she was with me for 10 years.
My job makes me travel, and it's always a burden to find someone
to sit for my dog when I'm away, plus I feel guilty about it.
With a cat, it's not so bad, they take care of themselves..
We'll see where I come out on this.
Thank You for your words and thoughts!
