Including the lab/Aussie mix I had for many years. She would NEVER go near the water until we were down by the Platte River park (Confluence Park) in Denver one spring after a record-setting snow-melt and the river was running really high and fast. But, of course she picked THAT specific moment to jump in, having never done so in 11 years. Thank gawd, I had a leash on her and managed to pull her out without strangling her and before the river carried her miles downstream. Those watching from nearby REI, gave us a big round of applause, so the danger of the episode was pretty obvious and that dog clung to me like never before!

Yeah, some dogs don't like water--until they do!

The first time we tried to play in the water with him was a disaster. We just shot some water at him while watering some plants with the garden hose. BAD MOVE. It took 4 meatballs with tranqs inside to get him out from under the car. He was terrified for days. We knew he had been badly abused, not once but twice, once after being sent to his "forever home". Grrrrrr Not sure if he was beaten with the hose, nearly drowned, or both. You can't stand him in a tub to bathe him either, the most he will tolerate even with meds, is having small cupfulls of water poured over him in a dry tub.

hose, so I bought her one of those kid toys that sprayed water. She had a kid's plastic swimming pool for summer months. And she ruined my kitchen's hardwood floor by constantly playing in her water bowl. It took hours to get her dried.

But if I could have her back for just one more day, I'd pay for a new floor again. How I miss you, Crissy Ann.
