Woman brings mini-service horse onto plane, into first class

https://nypost.com/2020/02/17/woman-brings-mini-service-horse-onto-plane-into-first-class/

This flyer wasn’t horsing around.

A Michigan woman startled other passengers on a recent series of flights when she brought aboard a mini-service horse and traveled with him in first class to California.

Ronica Froese made the journey starting on Feb. 7 with her equine companion Fred, who was specially trained to make the high-altitude trip, according to WXMI.

“I paid an arm and a leg for tickets, but I did so because it was Fred’s first time and I wanted him to be comfortable,” Froese told the station.

“I wanted him to have the most room.”

These "service" animals are simply out of hand.

Not to mention "emotional support" animals.

animal, like a dog or a cat, is what's wrong here. Abuse of the whole service/emotional support animal thing is ruining it for people who really do need something like a seeing eye dog.

Not a shrink, just someone that doesn't want to smell horse shit on an airplane.

There is an exception carved out

The miniature horse is not included in the definition of service animal, which is limited to dogs. However, the new ADA regulations contain a specific provision which covers miniature horses. Businesses must make reasonable modifications in policies, practices, or procedures to permit the use of a miniature horse by an individual with a disability if the miniature horse has been individually trained to do work or perform tasks for the benefit of the individual with a disability.
Factors to assist in determining whether miniature horses can be accommodated are whether:
the miniature horse is housebroken

the miniature horse is under the owner’s control

the facility can accommodate the miniature horse’s type, size, and weight

the miniature horse’s presence will not compromise legitimate safety requirements necessary for the safe operation of the facility

The airlines are in a bind on this one. They can claim it’s unsafe but I’d expect someone to sue to test that.

There’s no way it’s fitting in coach so let the first class crowd worry about it.

Accommodations must be made if possible to allow the horse.

The miniature horse lobby must be powerful.

for a meal and two first-class tickets on another flight?

No one forks over good money to fly first-class with a horse.
