Mysterious Crop Circle Forest in Japan Is the Result of a 50-Year-Old Experiment

A forest in Japan is creating quite a stir with its unique shape. In the Miyazaki Prefecture of southern Japan, groups of Japanese cedar trees swell toward the sky, creating mysterious concentric circles. After a recent aerial photo spotted these crop circles, it left people wondering just how they were formed.
The picturesque natural formations arent the results of an alien invasion, but rather a well thought out plan that took place nearly 50 years ago. According to Spoon & Tamago, a document by the Japanese Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries explains that whats now visible is due to a 1973 project regarding growth and tree spacing. At the time, the area was designated as experimental forestry and one experiment saw researchers planting trees in 10 degree radial increments to form 10 concentric circles.

(4,483 posts)3. This information will not make a shard of difference
to people who believe aliens are responsible, or even to people who cite this as a wondrous mystery. Pranksters have explained for years how they created crop circles by dragging a board around a cornfield, and true believers aren't buying it, even when shown it being done. Dumbasses gonna dumbass.

(11,085 posts)8. I always say corn mazes are harder to make.
Yet no one ever attributes corn mazes to aliens. Funny.

(22,492 posts)7. That's interesting! The concave growth might result from the trees being progressively closer,
Not allowing as much root growth space. But very pretty!❤
