So I have a roommate tonight.

Mama cardinal who crashed into my concrete wall earlier today. I think a broken wing. I whistled to her family and they came around but couldn’t help.

I have her in a laundry basket covered with towels in my apartment (kept warm from the air conditioning) until I can get her to the bird sanctuary in the morning. And away from cats and snakes and hawks.

I’m partial to cardinals, so I have to try.

I’ll let you know.

I’ve slapped many a mosquito and eaten a fair share of chickens and beef in my life so I can’t claim to be equal rights to animals, but I can’t watch an animal suffering without trying to help.

at the window, and especially papa cardinal feeding the little ones.
And I remember my husband who never cried over such things being teary and emotional when a hawk snatched a momma cardinal who still had small babies.
