We don't let our dog sleep on our bed.

At 9 months old, he has yet to spend any time on our bed. He’s allowed to put his front paws up but that’s it. He has a very comfy memory foam dog bed beside our bed.

Dh is out of town. Pup is snoring next to me. It’s just like Dh is here.

But pup is a heckuva bed hog. He doesn’t seem to have any concept of “my” space. It’s all his.

1. We had a Schnauzer which slept with us and we ended up all but hugging our sides of the bed...

So, we went out and bought a California king and were so excited to finally get a good night's rest.

In no time at all, the dog changed directions and laid sideways in the middle of the bed with his front paws touching one back and his hind paws touching the back of the other. We were, once again, hugging the edges of the bed.

Talk about a bed hog.

2. I have two Labs and I put a 3rd pillow at the foot of the bed

They share one side of the mattress. I get the other.

When it's warm they prefer their beds on the floor.

Many dogs like to push up against you. If you move they will move into you to maintain a certain contact. I'm a side sleeper so it works for me.

And so far he’s about 75 lbs... not thinking he will fit quite as well between us like the cat does.

He seems to be a pusher. He pushed me to the edge.

3. My wife and I had always had BIG dogs before our current dog

Rotties and shepherds. Just too big to share the bed or couch with 2 adult humans

But now we have a pibble girl from the pound - 60 pounds of snuggle.

But she has learned to fit in between us in the bed.

The back story is that she is a big lump of muscle who just wants to be with us.

I’ll have to work on Dh as he’s the one that doesn’t think dogs should sleep on our bed.

8. I kinda regret letting him on the couches.

Or I regret my choice in couch color and material. I’m not sure that off White was ever a good couch color. He’s been pretty hard on the fabric too.

My brother’s dog isn’t allowed on the couch. When she hangs at our house she’ll kinda sit on the couch, as long as she’s mostly on our lap. 60 lb lap dog.

Another dog, one we had since a pup, got very old and well........the couch was ruined and my brother and I had to break it apart to get it outside.

11. We never allowed our cats...

...to sleep with us at first.

Then they slowly wore us down. Now the cat most affectionate to me, will paw-tap my face to wake me up. I bring up the covers and he snuggles into my chest and if my arm is laying out....becomes his pillow.

12. My current cat will usually just sleep on chairs

One of my previous cats slept at the bottom of my parents bed, near their feet.
My dog would sleep at first at the bottom of my parents bed, but then wiggle his body up until his head was on the pillows.

13. There is no sleeping without the pup next to me! No way, no how

At first, it was just needing to know WHERE she was and that she wasn't getting into trouble. But, now,
she's my "security" blankie and I'd never get to sleep without her.

Get a dog and be prepared for them to take over your life. (It is IMMENSELY worth it).
