I am envious of all the bright color ... as I look out my window and see mostly gray and brown.

(35,166 posts)I would love to be able to move down there, to be close to areas good for scuba diving and birding. Thank you for sharing your paradise with us.

(59,877 posts)A few negatives, as well, but you hear that about almost anywhere. It's definitely on our to do list--along with about 250 other places, but what else is new?

Moving to Costa Rica?
Dont believe ANYTHING you read in books
(Including this one)

(59,877 posts)If you were to believe everything you hear about Germany you read on DU, you might think everything is free here except beer, pretzels and Lederhosen. Also total BS. Ask my wife how far her monthly 850 pension goes!

(59,877 posts)OK, done deal. If our path ever leads us in your direction, beware! And I used to live in Spain (was just down there again today), so while the local version of the language will no doubt take some getting used to, I don't think I'll have much difficulty communicating with the locals. I'll just have to remember to call a car a "carro."
A Guatemalan friend visited Spain for the first time, and when he got to Barajas (Madrid's airport), he tried to rent a "carro." The people at the car rental broke out in laughter, and told him there was a farm a few miles down the road that had some donkeys, so they might have a "carro (donkey or horse cart in Spain)" to rent him. In central Spain, you say "coche." In Catalunya, it's "cotxe," but pronounced almost the same.
