(62,444 posts)Okay.
I don't have one and don't plan on it.
I ordinarily have at least a three week supply of 5 gallon water containers for the cooler on hand, and typically buy dried pasta, rice, rice noodles in bulk. There's easily three weeks of food around at any given time.
I quit smoking two years ago and have been doing a fair amount aerobic exercise to help my lungs continue to improve.
We both work from home, and with what we ordinarily have on hand, I hate to admit this, but other than going out for recreational purposes like bike rides, going 14 days without leaving the house isn't really all that unusual. I'm pretty sure I could have been "quarantined" at least three times since last September.
If I have to attend a hearing on behalf of a client, I assume that if things get bad, then federal judges who ordinarily aren't fond of telephonic hearings will become a bit more lenient.
Other than that, my main "plan" is just to play the odds. I'm reasonably fit and my lungs are in good shape. I'd rather be infected early on, go through whatever syndrome occurs, and come out the other side of it immune.
If it is some single-digit fatal, that sounds like 90%+ non-fatal to me. Bring it.

>Officials in Osaka say a tour bus guide tested positive for COVID-19 for a second time.
>There have been a number of cases of reinfection in China.
Japan is reporting its first case of a person becoming reinfected with the coronavirus after showing signs they had fully recovered, according to Reuters.
Osakas prefectural government confirmed Wednesday a woman working as a tour bus guide tested positive for coronavirus for the second time after developing a sore throat and chest pain. The woman, who is said to be in her 40s, first tested positive in late January and was discharged from the hospital on Feb. 1 after showing signs of recovery.
Reuters reports Health Minister Katsunobu Kato said the government would need to monitor the condition of others who were infected and later discharged as health experts investigate testing positive for COVID-19 after an initial recovery.
As much remains unknown about the virus, cases of reinfection have health experts worried that the illness could remain dormant after an apparent recovery.
Once you have the infection, it could remain dormant with minimal symptoms, Philip Tierno Jr., professor of microbiology and pathology at New York University, told Reuters.
And then you can get an exacerbation if it finds its way into the lungs, he said.
There have been a number of cases of reinfection in China, particularly in Wuhan province where the coronavirus outbreak originated in late December.
jberryhill
(62,444 posts)...in a small number of cases.
If 50,000 have been infected and recovered, and there has been some sort of relapse in something like 3, then what is being found are people with anomalous immune systems, and not a significant property of the virus.

(10,885 posts)It's still very, very early. Most people don't have CV for the first time yet. Seeing it reappear is concerning: answers some questions, but creates others.
The first three CV patients wouldn't create much concern either, but look what has quickly blossomed. It's more than likely that if the virus has reappeared in 3 patients, it will happen to many others also.
It's way too early to be smug, IMO. There's still too much we do not know about this virus.

Yesterday I had a little girl sneeze directly on me from about two and a half feet away. She didn't even try to sneeze into her elbow or even use the tissues that were literally right by her hand. The mother didn't say a word to her. After they left to go to their appnt., I wiped up the spittle from her sneeze from the counter before I let the next patient up.

I don't think this thing is going to affect me, but once it hits the east coast, we're shutting everything up, and will not have contact with other humans until it blows over. We're in our mid-sixties, and don't need another infection.

thinking to get 30 more days worth of stuff.
If they find like 50 cases withing 50 miles of where I live (and I'm 20 miles from the lady that got the virus and they don't know how)... I am going to self quarantine until the virus is over.
The fatality rate isn't 2 or 2.5... in general it is more likely to be 6% (based on measured outcomes) and in my age and health category... 13%... so I think these precautions are prudent not panic.
I don't expect society to break down... but I do expect panic runs on the super markets, etc
and, if you are laughing at me... I have a friend in Romania... there is 1 confirmed case there, but there are over 1 million Romanians working in Italy. She went to buy some supplies (because I told her to weeks ago)... anyway, sh finally went 2 days ago... store was stripped bare... like in the hours before she got there. She and her mother drove 200km to find a store with some food... today there was a delivery to the local store... people were waiting in lines outside and it was picked clean in under an hour.
So people all over the world are starting to panic. The videos that do come out of China are chilling... and we have an idiot moron in the White House. We are truly on our own.

(7,602 posts)Hygiene items: Toothpaste, toothbrushes, dental floss, soap, toilet paper and so on. I still have toothpaste that I purchased in 2016 that expired in 2019 and so far, it's still good.
Medical items: Band Aids, elastic ace bandages, medical tape, tweezers, ibuprofen, antacids, OTC cold/cough/allergy/sinus/ medicine, ice packs, heating pads, etc.
Cleaning supplies: Hydrogen peroxide, rubbing alcohol and vodka can be used to disinfect surfaces. I always recommend having plenty of washable towels, sponges or paper towels to clean with. I use rubbing alcohol with cotton balls to disinfect the remote controls, doorknobs, mouse/ keyboard and cell phone. I use hydrogen peroxide on toothbrushes, to clean up cat vomit on carpet and mix it with dish soap to remove sweat stains on clothing. I use vodka on bathroom/kitchen counters and cutting boards.
Besides food, water for keeping clean and for drinking. We'll want to be able to wash our hands if a water line breaks.
