Uggh. Would you watch Nick Wallenda (LIVE) attempt to walk across an active volcano on tightrope?

ABC is promoting it heavily. I feel like we are reverting to the day of the Coliseum--men v lions.

My Mom was really affected by some of the earlier LIVE Wallenda deaths--including the patriarch, Karl Wallenda in the late 70s. She just didn't understand why people would line up to watch.

Not to mention the 100s who died watching a performance after a fire broke out:

In July 1944, the Wallendas were on the wire when a fire broke out in the Connecticut circus tent. Though the Wallenda group escaped, 167 people died.

Then there was the paralyzing and deadly accident to Mario Wallenda and two others in the sixties:

But then, in 1962, they were attempting the seven-person pyramid in Detroit, Michigan. It's a stunt they'd been performing for more than a decade.

"As they made their way on that wire, the pyramid collapsed and two of the members were actually killed. One of my great-uncles, Mario, was paralyzed from the waist down," recalled Nik Wallenda.

I will NOT be watching.

I never implied I was trying to stop it. Merely commenting on it. hlthe2b Feb 2020 #2

of the old Carnival "geek man" but I believe the distance is measurable only in microns. If someone brought back the Geek show people would be lining up in droves to be "horrified" by it.

...the risk-taking gene, nor do I enjoy watching people who do have a death wish.

My older son is a recent fan of indoor rock climbing, which I’m told is called “bouldering.” I asked him to please tell me he had no interest in doing something stupid like free-climbing El Capitan.

I was soooooo relieved when he assured me he did not.

On the one hand, I think people like this are just plain nuts, and probably so too are a fair amount of the people who enjoy watching such folk. On the other hand, I think life would be very boring indeed if no one ever did really, really stupid stuff.

but now I can’t imagine seeing it. I don’t want to see someone die live on the air.

The fact that I obsessively watch Formula1 probably contradicts the above statement, of course.
