But I never liked it. Even in my drinking days, I never did.

(71,868 posts)No flavor, no kick, nothing. It's formulated to appeal to the undiscerning among us, and there are a lot of them.
The best beers, IMO, are small-batch craft beers. There are a million different flavors, textures, consistencies, etc.

(23,738 posts)Beer works with most types of American food, such as hamburgers, tube meats of various kinds, anything German, or heavy on the potato/cheese/cabbage spectrum like Irish food. Anything battered and fried as well.
Wine works with anything more delicate/subtle, like baked or sauteed fish or seafood, chicken cooked most ways, lighter food like big salads.
Saki for Japanese food, sometimes with other Asian cuisines, except Indian food (which clobbers anything less pungent than port wine or stout).
If I'm just 'having a drink', like at a bar gathering, it's usually bourbon. Hopefully, there's snacks, lol.

(2,343 posts)say "beer" on the label. I think I'd give up water before I give up beer.
