The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsDo you have a Best Album Cover evah pick? I'm doing a project on Album cover art of the
60s and 70s.
Help me out with my project (it's part of a larger art project). I want your pick for the best, not just your favorite. Qualities will include design, artistic quality and fidelity to the music of the artist. Does it say something or is it just a nice picture of the artist?
Thanks for your help, fellow DUers!

(34,189 posts)I've been to two concerts in my life.
Big one - Herman's Hermits in Tampa about 1968 - way too many people and WAY too much screaming.
Little one - Gordon Lightfoot in Tallahassee about 1972-3 - lots of fun, not a lot of screaming but too many people.
I enjoy the music more than the experience.

(plus there was a poster included with more)
And yes I got to see him on his lastest tour where he revisited that cover art theme too (although the tour was based on his Goodbye Yellow Brick Road album - another great cover)

Also Earth, Wind and Fire had some nice covers in the '70s and on (Egyptian-themed) as they were also in transition with musical styles and with theme focus - All 'N All was one -

And Ramsey Lewis and his collaborative album as he was transitioning from '60s-style to '70s style jazz with Sun Goddess -

so Molly Hatchet's debut, at least, was a favorite cover (Don't remember if he did the cover to Flirtin With Disaster but that 's a cool painting too) edit to add - yes, he did paint that one too.

So cool that the "modern" hand with the modern paintbrush is drawing stick figures, while the "Neanderthal" hand with the stick is drawing rifles and airplanes. The incongruity of it has always struck me.
