But what's behind it? I can see one or two kids having some trepidation, but so many? What do they fear?

We have large, fast spiders in our yard. I wouldn't walk barefoot in our yard for $5. Probably not their concern, but it made me instantly think of that.

enough for unsteady feet just learning to stand up. Makes them nervous, insecure.
