And was it chemically induced or au naturel?
On edit:
And by "au naturel", I'm not talking about your home-grown organic weed. For the purposes of the question, that counts as chemical.
Dang potheads.

(29,949 posts)But its the most intelligent conversation I have all day.
Does it count if I am coaching it by pretending Im talking to the dog?
sl8
(17,147 posts)Unless, of course, the pet in question is holding up its end of the discusion. That wouldn't count.

(17,147 posts)I'm assuming that behavior goes away in adulthood for most people (although I have no idea of any particular data on this).
Yours persisted, I take it?

(1,076 posts)I was a classic introvert who didn't much care for talking, but I've wondered sometimes if I became an introvert because everyone else in my family could talk more than I did, and about the most ridiculous things at that. And they were louder about it, too. Whatever I said got lost in the cacophony. So I learned two bad habits: To tune out conversations that were boring me or hurting my ears. And when I had to say something, I had to say it with as much, er, punch as possible, because it had to count, or nobody would hear it. So I would wind up saying super-rude or shocking things that seemed completely inappropriate. But if I didn't do that, nobody paid attention to what I had to say.
My mother used to call it the world's worst ahem.

(17,147 posts)Seriously, thanks for weighing in. It's beginning to look like that behavior might not be all that uncommon, based on this rigorous, scientific Lounge study.

Its only really an issue if you start arguing with yourself. As long as all the voices agree, its okay.

(38,540 posts)I found the conversation boring.
I'm sure you're your own worst critic.
I can't remember a time I didn't do it.
Not that I was much on talking, but I can remember doing it as a kid.

(17,147 posts)I had no idea that this was a common lifelong behavior.

Kick in to the DU tip jar?
This week we're running a special pop-up mini fund drive. From Monday through Friday we're going ad-free for all registered members, and we're asking you to kick in to the DU tip jar to support the site and keep us financially healthy.
As a bonus, making a contribution will allow you to leave kudos for another DU member, and at the end of the week we'll recognize the DUers who you think make this community great.
