A very interesting idea about the "...Movie Business.." How does it survive with so many failures?

Here is how, hit the link below, and then look at the side information....To make it simple:

Movie, ......."A Star is Born".......released in theaters, October 5, 2018..

Budget ........$30,000,000
Promotion......25,000,000
total cost.......55,000,000

World Gross..450,000,000 How much money the movie made in world release in theaters.

Profit...........$400,000,000

Above does NOT... include profit from being shown on cable TV, reg TV, disc sales, etc, etc, etc,.

You see, every once in a while..you hit that jackpot ...quite a haul...eh?

That's a good example because "Star" had such a modest budget. Mike 03 Apr 2020 #1

Many of the studios are dependent upon expensive franchise films (i.e., Star Wars, superhero films, Transformers, Pirates of the Caribbean, etc...). Those films can cost easily upwards of $100 M, probably closer to $200 nowadays. X Men: Dark Phoenix was a $200 million dollar film that made (so far) $250 million. Batman Dark Knight was a $185 Million dollar film that made over a billion dollars.

EDIT: I was just looking up the budget of Star Wars The Rise of Skywalker. It was $275 million (that surprised me, I thought it was less than that) and made over a billion. Studios depend on those films to offset other losses.

I like this sentence from your post:

Batman Dark Knight was a $185 Million dollar film that made over a billion dollars.

and this too......:

another film to think about.....................

.....................Star Wars, A New Hope...(first Star Wars move, 1977)

......................budget........$11,000,000
..................total gross.....$750,000,000

profit...............................$725,000,000...........approx...after promotion costs.. (side note, I saw that on the 2nd day it was out..on a Saturday, no one knew what money it would bring in, but it was lots of fun to watch, and I saw it in the movie theaters at least 5 times after that)
