Leeks: a life & death decision?

I wanted to make vichyssoise. It started on Saturday when I ordered groceries from Krogers via Instacart. Demand is so great that I got them today. What was missing? The one ingredient essential to the dish, leeks. You can't make a decent vichyssoise without leeks. Without them, it's just potato soup. Y-A-W-N. I called my local neighborhood grocery to see if they even had them. They did. So I had to make a decision. Do I risk going out for leeks? I never thought I'd see the day when going out for leeks could be a life or death decision.

I decided to live dangerously and I know that it will be the best batch I've ever made because the leeks are beautiful. And I told the cheerful, endearing checkout clerk that I thought he was a superhero for working and he got the biggest smile on his face.

I think I'll be okay.

My mother made the best vichyssoise. Do you remember that great potato soup that came in a can and was frozen? It tasted so fresh and it made a great vichyssoise. I don't think I've seen that product since the 70s.

Who's the whistleblower??

I know exactly what you mean. At our house, running out of shallots would be a disaster. Also cat food.

We'll go early morning, in mask and gloves. Can't think there will be very many people there. I haven't been anywhere else for a month.

Just can't resist the call of annuals any longer.
