It does seem like everything would have been really boring if it was all white marble with no color.

Anyway, I've read similar articles before, and I take exception to the often absurdly gaudy painting recreations. The famous Prima Porta statue of Caesar Augustus, for example. When Roman statues were painted, the goal was to make them look as near to life as possible. The painting recreation makes Augustus look like an albino drag queen.
