BELGRAVIA starting tonight on EPIX (if you liked Downton Abbey...

"Belgravia": Where "Downton Abbey" meets Dickens

About the Show
Belgravia is a story of secrets and scandals amongst the upper echelon of London society in the 19th Century. When the Trenchards accept an invitation to the now legendary ball hosted by the Duchess of Richmond on the fateful eve of the Battle of Waterloo, it sets in motion a series of events that will have consequences for decades to come as secrets unravel behind the porticoed doors of London’s grandest neighborhoods. The limited series reunites the award-winning creative team behind Downton Abbey; with Julian Fellowes adapting his bestselling novel for the screen and Carnival’s Gareth Neame executive producing alongside Nigel Marchant, Liz Trubridge and Fellowes.

DirecTV is giving me an Epix freebie for a week. So I only get to see the first episode. Then I'll be hooked. Then I'll want to see the rest of it. So do I give DirecTV more money? Or do I wait for it to show up on Amazon or Netflix? Decisions, decisions.

In a nutshell, what Is the appeal? If it is like Jane Austin stuff, I have no interest in that.

I wanted to come back here and give you an actual description of Downton Abbey. I never watched Game of Thrones. I tried. Way too violent for me.

Downton is definitely a period piece. But it has great characters, very well written stories, and if you like history, it is full of history.

It was fascinating to see that era, for both the wealthy and the poor. And how everything changed as the years went by. And it wasn't just focused on the wealthy. The story line was very fair in that it covered what life was really like for poor people. How they had to spend their entire lives serving someone else just to survive.

I know it's on Amazon, and if you have Prime, I think it's free. And there are a lot of seasons, so it can keep you busy for a while.

I've probably watched the entire series five times. And I saw the movie that came out last year.

Give it a try. Even if just for the first few episodes to see if you might have a taste for it.

They have everything in it! It's not just romance. It's romance and history all tied in together. There's definitely romance. But it's worth it!

I really liked Downton Abbey and GOT. If you remember Upstairs, Downstairs, which was really good, Downton Abbey is like a slick version of that. If nothing else, Downton Abbey is beautiful. A visual feast.

Game of Thrones is in a class by itself.

I already pay $235 for my cable/internet/phone. I get HD channels, HBO, Cinemax, Showtime, Starz.

That's it. I am paying no more.

Epix is yet another tier add-on.

That also means no Netflix, Hulu, Apple tv... I have NONE of the sports packages. I only watch Olympic Channel for sports. It is included. Yet enterprising techies who want our money continue to come up with more subscription services.

I DO get Amazon Prime, for the shipping, which included Prime Video. Lots of good stuff there.

These jokers seem to think we have no problem paying $400 to $500 a month to be connected. Not happening.

Instant win.

Same goes for Andrew Davies.
