They'd just be eating mosquitoes, and not get the notoriety that they have now.

We're up to bat now;
Since the president struck out,
We are at the plate.

(Playing on another meaning of "bat," obviously.)

and there was another restaurant just down the street that had a live bat in the courtyard that you could feed fruit to. To be fair the flying foxes look like upside down puppies with wings when you get up close and they’re fairly domesticated.

I did not eat one. But most things are better than liver and onions.

Some while back our cat killed one that somehow got into our home at night, and I am pleased to recall his mighty deed....

It seems that these two conspire to create diseases. Whether or not they serve some useful purpose, I can do without them.

And mosquitoes.

And black flies.

So I didn’t even bother to look it up.

So, thanks, I guess. I’ll put it in my calendar.

They are very useful things to have around.

Had a really, really, bad mosquito year up here one year. One of those years when you’d go camping, and arriving at your campsite, someone would dash out, light mosquito coils at all 4 corners at the compass, then jump back in the car and lather up with DEET. One night as we were setting up camp after having done this (perfectly ineffectual and useless) ritual, a brown blur buzzed the campsite, then another, then another. We’d been slapping at mosquitos ever since we got out of the car, and within 5 minutes of the bats having arrived, they cleaned the place out. I know it was just by comparison, but it almost seemed like there wasn’t a mosquito left, they cleaned the place out!

Had a small family living back near my cabin the one year I spent back there too. They came out every night and buzzed the campfire, feeding. Never bothered us one bit back then.

I enjoy watching them in the evenings. We have maybe 11 species here in Louisiana.

Always thought Keaton would have done well with all the gee whiz special effects the last few guys have, he was underrated, IMHO.

Bale, West, Affleck, Keaton,
Have tried and been found wanting
Spidey rules these days.
