4. Some people laugh -

Some people cringe.

I mean, if I knew them personally, I might be more likely to laugh. I laugh at my friends doing stuff like that all the time. Or myself.

Or if I saw that they were getting some kind of Karma.

I guess it's the kind of empathy your have for certain people and things. I'm like, I hope they're alright. I hope they're alright. I hope they're alright. I hope they can afford to replace that. I hope they can afford to fix that.

Oh well.

It's why I despise that Ridiculous show.

Also - I was raised to appreciate satire and comedy that makes fun of societal norms.

Or more likely makes fun of tRump. ha

5. Understood.

I very much enjoy humor that pokes fun at societal norms as well -- one of the reasons I love George Carlin, Monty Python, Fawlty Towers, the Marx Brothers movies, Mel Brooks movies, etc. etc.

I also have a weak spot for humor that's completely silly -- again, all those listed above) and often has little or no redeeming social value (e.g., The Three Stooges, Bob and Ray, The Young Ones, The IT Crowd, The Office, Schitt's Creek, etc.).

I am a huge Stephen Colbert fan, and his attacks on Herr Stable Genius are great. I don't see his current show as often as I used to see The Colbert Report, but when I do, it's fantastic. (Love Jon Batiste, too!) It was a major tragedy at our house when Jon Stewart left the air -- for a long time we kept the final episode on our DVR but lost it when our cable company rendered the old model obsolete.

We record Late Night With Seth Myers, who also skewers Trump brilliantly. (And Amber Ruffin's bits on his show are golden!) Samantha Bee is another one we record and watch with relish -- brilliant stuff. And I love some of the current crop of great political cartoonists, Mike Luckovich in particular (I got to meet him in person once -- what a thrill!).

FWIW, I despise America's Funniest Home Videos as well -- assuming that's the show you're referring to. I find it arch and phony, and the host is way too smarmy. Maybe there are more TV shows like that now, I wouldn't be surprised.

Anyway, thanks for coming back with a thoughtful reply. And I do appreciate your point of view -- that is very similar to my wife's sense of humor. The humor she values the most by a long shot is social satire lampooning the powerful and the unjust (and that's in my pantheon of yuks also). But she wonders sometimes just who she married when she sees some of the other stuff that cracks me up.
