Posting while drunk

Folks,

I would like some advice on posting whilst drunk. Have you ever done this and regretted it? Please share?

Recently I made this mistake and regret it like the dog that ate the Xmas turkey. No details, but I would like some tips on how to avoid falling into the trap again. It was only a couple of craft beers and a gin and tonic, but reading the post in clear daylight I could see what I'd done (and me with two philosophy degrees to boot).

Guess I just want a cuddle and someone to tell me that its alright. TBH it was the worst post I've written in 15 yrs of online forums, maybe more. The shame!!

D.

15. Thanks

Samnsara,

That's what I needed to hear. Yes, it blinkin well was a Trump post that backfired. TBO I'm sick of taking notice of Trump, stone sick of it. Will now try to go 'on the wagon' and leave Trump posts to others.

2. Can't help you. Posting while drunk is kind of my Friday-Night thing.

I have a lot of Loungers join me for some alcohol-based relaxation. But at least one DU-er has started sending me hate-PM's because of it.

3. Just add a note like -- "Posted while pleasantly under influence, reserve right to reconsider."

8. "You probably wouldn't worry about what people think of you if you could know how seldom they do."

This quote has been attributed to various people, including Eleanor Roosevelt, but apparently originated with a certain Olin Miller in 1936.

The wisdom in his words is invaluable for anyone who tends grapple with more than the usual amount of shame or regret, perhaps because they (okay, we) tend to catastrophize small things out of what should be their small context into something so big we struggle to overcome the shame. Because we're focused on ourselves, we may not be remembering that everyone else is... most definitely not.

So, dear poster, you said something you regret.

It's all right.

If an apology to someone is in order, then make it. If not, then today is another day, and the world will continue to spin on its axis and most of its people will either never know, or have already forgotten what you said. You will be the wiser for it hopefully, because negative lessons are not soon forgotten and we can grow from them and the bit of humility it smacks into us.

I hope you find your bit of happy in the day, and be well.

10. It's alright. Really, it is.

Itís just words. Admittedly, words can hurt, but itís not like you caused thousands of unnecessary deaths by calling the Coronavirus a hoax.

Make amends and say youíre sorry, if you can. Youíll feel better.

13. Add a disclaimer to your signature line

"Warning: All posts heavily influenced by mind altering substances"

Should go without saying in The Lounge.

14. Yes, I have done it

Next day I saw all the snarky responses (well deserved) and I just flat out said that I was an asshole, and a drunk one at that. And I apologized. Got a couple of cool responses to that. But now, if I get the urge, I think back to how humiliated I felt in daylight.

Turn off the computer before it comes to that.

16. All good replies

Folks,

Much appreciated and I'm back in the land of the living, hangover free. Yes, it was a learning experience and will be remembered as that.

All good replies.
