He is on the rear seat, the driver can see ahead, and it appears at least someone unemcumbered is convoying them.

The rest, though, support your point. I suspect most of us have something we can look back at which is equivalent.

I once carried an assembled glass-block bathroom window up a forty-foot ladder, and on the next to top rung of it stood to wrestle the burden into the gape awaiting it, the bottom edge of which was about level with my chin. I didn't even have the excuse of heedless youth, I was well into my thirties.

And to lift and work it put my arms above my head, and required a little leaning back while I was the sole support for the weight. Not past the point of tipping balance, or I would not be here typing this. But I certainly rank it among the stupidest things I have ever done in my life. Some of those, of course, are among the things I am proudest of....

Needless to say no safety equipment whatever was involved.

Once saw a Dodge Omni (really small car) rolling down the highway with a riding mower strapped to the roof of the car! Almost drove off the road.

We did it from a trailer behind a car. On the trailer was piled boxes to get the right height, and on top of them was my friend with a motorsaw. Then just drive slowly along the hedges, and cut the top of them. It actually worked... but we never repeated that stunt.
