(2,578 posts)She often follows me around the house. They are a gift. I adopted my current cat after my previous one disappeared. When I first saw my current cat, she was hiding under the sofa of the kind person who had taken her in. I didn't adopt her right away, because I was hoping to find my lost cat. I hired a guy who uses dogs to track missing people. The search turned up evidence that I would never get her back. A couple of weeks later, the person who had rescued my current cat called and said she couldn't keep her anymore, and didn't I want to come and give her a home. I could not say no. It took me five months to win the trust of my current cat. It was worth it!

(2,578 posts)I also looked up information in the book, The New Natural Cat, by Anitra Frazier. The homeopathic remedies she recommends really helped. Based on the observations of the person who rescued my cat, and my own observations, my cat was not originally a feral. We think she was dumped. The lady who rescued her went all around her area, and put up posters, because I had said that I didn't want to inadvertently adopt a cat that belonged to someone. The lady talked to the people who lived behind her. My cat had been living in the shed for a couple of months. They were glad that she was getting adopted, because she kept getting into fights with their pets in an effort to get food. The lady I adopted her from had taken her to her get and had her scanned for a chip. I also had her scanned when I took her to my vet. They didn't find one, so I had her chipped. I keep her indoors. I never want to have to worry about losing a cat, ever again.

(6,543 posts)It is so wonderful to see the changes happen when they are moved into a family home. I have two original cats and have moved 4 feral kittens into my home as well to improve their moving on to a forever home. In the meantime, I feed and keep track of the health of 6 (almost daily contact) to 10 (4 who float in and out when they feel like it. All of the ferals accept me, but do not stick around when people come into my yard. My want is to have all of my ferals moved to house cat status in the future. Videos like this give me hope.
