I'm quarantined with two cats and one dog.
Also, one republican roommate who is driving me crazy.

(9,895 posts)Since the start of this all, we are actually down one child (eldest moved out to be with her boyfriend - which is an enormous mistake and a very sore spot right now around the homestead) and a hamster, a snake and 2 lizards...
The hamster passed, as she was over a year old and just not meant for much longer than that...the rest moved out with said daughter.
As she was trying to make excuses for why this was a good idea AT THIS EXACT TIME to do this, I asked her if she realized that both her and her boyfriend work in RETAIL outfits that are going to be lucky to avoid bankruptcy in the next 90 days, but age does not speak words that passionate youth will hear...only much later, after the damage is done, will she recognize this for the catastrophe it is doomed to be.
GOOD relationships are going through unfathomable stress right now...IFFY ones? Let's just say I'll be shocked if this lasts long enough to not have to decide how to quarantine her when she wants to move back home...

(21,111 posts)We picked up our adult son with autism from his group home this weekend and now they tell us he might not be able to go back. We are following quarantine rules with him. We have him until Wednesday when they will let us know. I love my son but he is the pickiest eater and everything has to have cheese in it. The food part will be the hardest if he has to stay with us. And my cat is frightened of him because he can be loud. And I like to go to bed at 10 pm and he wants to stay up late.

(6,272 posts)on 160 acres that I am trying to manage with the least help possible, because I am high risk and terrified.
Trying to get irrigation systems ready for the season, trying to get fields planted, trying to get sheep sheared with social distancing! Ag is exempt, but I am not exempt from getting this virus!!!!!!! And most everyone who works in ag around here seems to be quite cavalier about things. Except the sheep shearer who is on the same page as me.
At least he demands that we all wear masks and keep 6 feet apart, which meant that we had to rebuild the shearing floor and area.
My goodness, I am really really scared of every single task that I must do.
The septic tank needed pumping, and then I found that the leach line is plugged, which requires repair. OH MY GOODNESS!!!!!
Which is why I am sitting here at my computer on DU, it is just too worrisome trying to maintain a working farm under these circumstances. I think that everyone who is trying to run an exempt business is really struggling with how to do it safely for everyone.

(4,385 posts)We are senior citizens following Governor's guidelines. Spouse's employer has available masks/gloves/wipes for personnel; counter shields are up and personnel must take temp on arrival for shift. Customers are encouraged to social distance, but not all are masked or gloved at gas pumps. Any reports of illness or actual probable 1st-degree community exposure will result in facility shutdown until a Hazard service can cleanse everything so no one dares call off except for a viral situation; one staff member has indeed called in to disclose her choice for a 2-week self-quarantine on immediate knowledge of a possible(?) 3rd degree situation of exposure (family member's friend of friend's relative) and schedules were amiably arranged to accommodate the choice and disclosure; no one in household is or has become ill.
One single adult child working from home at reduced salary with an application in for partial unemployment (Has beat two rounds of layoffs) and who is practicing stay-at-home measures and masking public measures does show up every Saturday to pick up her delivered Hello Fresh food for the week; we share a take-in meal from some local restaurant while we catch up our binge streaming series, and/or pick up anything necessary for pets, meals, and household; then kid goes directly back home.
Haven't seen the other kid's family since we gathered to make masks two weeks ago. They are working from home and grandson is now out of elementary school for the rest of the school year; to be re-evaluated late August/September.
IMHO, it's not yet time to open business/services up; I'd think maybe it would be okay for parks to re-open if large groups don't congregate - for hikes or perhaps fishing?

(13,357 posts)one cat, one dog... they are sweeties.
The teen, my 17 yr old son. He is all freaked out about this and yells at me if he hears me on the phone talking about ANYTHING to do with this pandemic.
I am actually working with a coalition remotely that is making masks and so I need to talk on the phone about masks. He fucking flipped out on me last night as I was telling my mom what an amazing great project this is. I had to get off the phone and he continued to rant at me for the next 30 mins...finally finished by telling me he hopes I die from this.
Ugh, with I could send him somewhere for the duration. Little fucker.
(yes he is scared I know, I am trying to limit his exposure to conversations etc...but he has a history of being very verbally abusive and even bullying me to the point that his teacher and even the sheriff and juvey have gotten involved. Now I am stuck at home walking on eggshells to some degree)

Chessie - a tuxie female with grass-green eyes who thins she should be fed any time one of us walks into the kitchen, which is often
Winston - a big black and brown tabby whose favorite treat is spinach
Im furloughed from my pediatric nurse practitioner job. I was planning to retire next summer when i turn 70. I might just do it now after collecting a few unemployment checks.

(8,199 posts)The other four cats are loves. And the feral one will stay in the room with us now.
My husband builds musical instruments so he has a woodshop to go to. And one of our best friends lives next door so we can visit from a safe distance in our backyards.
The cardinals, sparrows, warblers, raccoon and opossum that stop by our yard help me feel less alone, too. We get a lot of critters, considering our backyard is about the size of most people's kitchens, and you can touch our house from the sidewalk if you have long arms.
