(4,664 posts)I will continue to collect whatever recordings I can get my hands on, but a live performance is at the top of my "Bucket list". I think BH fans have a an extra receptor on a gene somewhere. Some people hear him and go "that's nice" and others hear him and their world is never the same. In 60 years I have never come across any group that changes fans like his music does. I am an Atheist, but it's the closest I have ever come to a religious experience.
The Polack MSgt
(13,797 posts)Roy Buchanan, Rory Gallagher, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Doc Watson, The Allman Bro.s with Dickey Betts and with Derek Trucks, Santana, etc. etc. yada yada yada.
Too much Bragging on my part, but only to make this point, Bucket Head was perfect live and none of the others was even close.
Not a single stumble, no early or late notes nothing out of tune.
That said he's not one of the players i listen to very often.
Much of his stuff I find kind of off putting - too dense and complicated.
I suppose it's the same reason I only listen to some jazz, I respect it and the players but I usually just want to groove without paying attention.
I asked about the concerts because that album was only for sale at the shows.
It may have since been reissued tho. Thanks for the reply - I love talking music

(12,217 posts)Duane Allman was offered that gig on the strength of his fills on Wilson Pickett's cover of Hey Jude, which DA pushed hard for him to record. Clapton heard it, and thought it was the best session guitar he'd ever heard and "WHO THE HELL IS THAT? Find him for me!"
That's kind of cool, but the amazing part is...when Duane did the fills for Layla, he'd been playing slide guitar for a little over a year.
It's amazing to me, at least.

Humorous story from a Facebook friend, who is an ultra fan of music, live, recorded, music festivals, you name it. He came home one day from an outing to find that the band Holy Ghost Revival had let themselves into his house and were set up and jamming in his living room, but that's not the story.
When he got his first job in high school, he worked at the Sizzler. First paycheck was given, and he promptly cashed it and bought five (or so) albums he'd been coveting. Dad comes home, and he's about halfway through listening to his new albums. Dad blows his stack and scolds him, "Son, you keep blowing your money like this, and you'll wind up an old man with no friends and a room full of records!" "Dad . . . that's Plan A!"
