One of my best friends and her husband lost almost everything in a fire on Monday night that started two townhouses down from them. There was no fire damage but the roof collapsed and the water damage was total. That's bad enough but they have insurance and things can be replaced. What really upsets me is that they couldn't get one of their cats out. He was sighted alive yesterday by movers that were moving the few items they were able to salvage. My friends couldn't get him out so the fire department boarded up their townhouse with poor Kurlee trapped inside to starve to death. I'm beside myself. I lived with them for almost 3 years and I love that cat like he's my own. My friends are devastated. There won't be any animal videos today. I'm too gutted.

(55,007 posts)why can't fire dept, or somebody cut an escape/feeding hole?
set food in a live animal trap and check it every day.
if roof is collapsed cat can probably get out.
lots of things to try before giving up.

(7,605 posts)Could you call your local SPCA for help? I'm sure they would be more than willing to help rescue frightened Kurlee, they would never allow any animal to starve.
Please keep us posted.

(8,201 posts)I agree with other posters that there has got to be a way to get the cat out. The fire department follows their protocol, but the mayor would almost certainly override that with the owners' permission. Even if the town won''t let the owners go in for fear of injury, I'd be stunned if they didn't allow them to remove a board or two so the cat has an escape route.

(51,454 posts)a 52 ft. truck trailer I had in my driveway to hold my household goods during a remodel. The cat was locked in there for over 2 weeks before he was discovered! He survived, but was rail thin.
Have hope and call animal services, SPCA, and city officials.

(63,221 posts)I can't believe they would let a helpless animal starve to death without intervening. I hope things turn out for the best for you and your friends.
