My neighbors dog wants to play. Hes not beyond putting his toy right in your lap when he wants attention. We love him.

(15,169 posts)Having had (or being had by) a variety of border collies, aussies, mixes - I know that look well.
I've always tried to stand at the top of a hill so when I launch the "pluto platter" / frisbee or tennis ball or stick or whatever, the faithful retriever would need to run down and back up.
One pup (mix border and springer) was way too smart. When I brought out my tennis racquet to hit the ball as far as I could, he'd just sit there and say "That's not fair. You go get your own damn ball."

But I adore him, and I have never met a smarter dog.

(6,831 posts)She had endless, boundless energy. Just a fur ball of kinetic explosion.
She passed away two weeks ago, at the age of 18. The crying isn't over.

(15,169 posts)They are not good at just sitting around. In fact they'll find activities to keep themselves busy - frequently not ones you might want.
If they are young enough, get them into training. Get yourself into training. And keep it up throughout your lives.
Dont adopt an Aussie or a Border Collie unless you are ready and willing to give it a lot of your TIME. They should not be ignored. They are not a show piece dog for a bourgeois family that wants to show off its prestige. They are loyal, loving, super-smart, easily-bored, hard-working, pack dogs, and it is WRONG to neglect and ignore them if they are part of your pack.
