5. Many years ago, maybe 20, we had an emu visit.

My husband was splitting wood and said he felt someone watching him...except it was an emu a few feet away looking at him. My husband is about 5'9", he said it was like looking at someone the same height. He and another who showed up wandered around for a few days. We supposed they had escaped from a game farm but never knew; A neighbor's dog chased one into a fence line and it turned and charged back at him.

They are huge birds.
