The DU Lounge

so I am in an apartment building, 1 elevator. I was doing laundry. waiting on the elevator, then a guy gets off - he was wearing a mask as was I. But I felt weird getting right in the elevator after he exited. Should I have waited? What would you do?

(102,225 posts)Definitely wear the mask and have your hand disinfectant, gloves or similar ready to go. I wear some type of glasses (even sunglasses) everywhere I go where I may be in close proximity as well. I don't think enough attention has been given-- outside the immediate HCW risks-- to the potential ocular route of infection.

(111,245 posts)You are very unlikely to absorb any cooties through your skin. You'd be waiting over an hour for that elevator if you wanted the cooties to clear out of the air and fall to the floor.
Any time you get into an elevator, you're breathing in viruses exhaled by people up to a couple of hours ago, more if they're sneezing. Good news: were immune to most of them. Bad news: we're not immune to Covid, so keep that mask on.
I imagine there are people doing their laundry between 3 and 4 AM out of fear of cooties.
