I slept all day today. Has anyone else had strange sleeping habits lately?

I don't know why I was so tired. I didn't really sleep well last night, and woke up around 8:30 as usual to wfh until around Noon or so when I suddenly felt very tired again.

I decided I was going to take a little 30 minute cat-nap, but I just could not wake up and kept going back to sleep. Woke up around 4:30 and was still exhausted, so I went back down and just woke up again until about 8:45pm and now I am up for a little while, but still drowsy. Having a little bite to eat and catching up from the day, but this is very unusual for me.

Have any of you had strange sleep patterns or felt unusually tired lately?

after the first time my eyes open and I see the clock, usually 3-4 am. What happened overnight? How many Americans died yesterday? I s there some I should be ware of? After 10-20 minutes of that, i am up and checking with DU, the NYT, Palmer Report. Sleep can wait, my curiosity will not.

I think the stress of our situation sometimes just creeps up and we are exhausted by it.
Sleep is rejuvenating.
Take care.

It seems like once a year or so, I will go into this coma-like sleep that I can't seem to wake up from, where I will just sleep an entire day or a weekend away. I feel guilty for all the time wasted, but I usually feel like at the end of it, I am refreshed and less stressed.

and when I say to myself: I am going to bed now; I catch up on some issues on the iPad while reclining until I doze off.
I will sleep a little later into the morning and repeat the same routine.

I am doing some work at home, with mixed success. It takes much longer for me to complete tasks since my normal physical activity release valve has been shut down.

I think I will take up yoga and maybe a stationary bike to get toned up; it certainly would help the routine to normalize sleep patterns.
I do feel fairly lazy and out of shape right now.

I actually had a few nightmares about this shit too...trying to avoid a mob of jackasses with guns and intent on "infect the lib"...

Overall, my sleep disruption is also due to my disconnect between still working every day in my office, but coming every night to my kids without school, my wife working from home and the news just abysmal and terrifying day after day after day.

I have no doubt that the stress is getting to me and is contributing to my sleep issues.

I'm also exhausted ALL THE TIME...

but almost every day there is a time when I want to. I don't know exactly when it is but I don't think it is the same time each day when it happens.

So far I haven't lain down to see if I actually go to sleep.

But mentally, I want to rest for awhile, at least I think that is the message from my brain.

My body just won't do it.

I mean, when I go on vacation I tend to go to sleep later and later, then have to end on an all-nighter to get back to normal.

Last month because of the pandemic I was stuck "on call" at home for two weeks, came back for a week, then went on a week's "staycation" (scheduled last year). The whole time I couldn't sleep more than two or three hours. Now I'm still messed up, but I'm pretty sure this time it's the stress of watching it all going to hell while Generalissimo Corpulente lies that he's doing an awesome job rearranging the Titanic's deck chairs.

I know I should get up early but I don't because it's so hard to get out of bed when I'm not working. (The days are long enough as it is)

But if I sleep in too long, it disrupts that night's sleep and I lie awake for hours.

I've been late-shifted all my life. Unless I'm sick, I'm never tired before midnight, usually go to bed around 2am.

Getting up in time for the whole morning routine and commute and to work at a normal hour has always been a challenge. But now, I can almost literally roll out of bed at 8:50am and be at work at 9am.

The situation sucks all around, but at least working from home suits my sleep disorder better....

I'm the original "sleep to noon" girl.

I'm now 71 years old, and I've always been this way.

I am also a huge proponent of getting enough sleep no matter what.

At my age I find myself dozing off mid afternoon.

Getting sufficient sleep is a huge thing. I've read any number of books on this topic, and related to my own personal experience in my youth, I will preach to you that getting sufficient sleep is hugely important.

has a lot of truth to it. Feeling like you want to get more sleep could be perfectly natural, esp. during stressful times. But if irregular sleep or lack of sleep keeps on being a problem here's some suggestions:

Doing physical exercise like going for a walk, performing a light errand or two, chatting with a good friend, or completing a small project like a load of laundry or cooking a dish or two can be beneficial.

Anything to break the cycle; sometimes you have to push yourself, hard even if you feel bad.

Engaging in mild activity and using the body helps break the desire to go back to sleep when you can't, stay in bed, lounge and worry, esp. if the disrupted sleep spells continue and impact mood or productivity. Good luck.

having any alcohol in the evening. Not even at dinner.

I have always been an early riser and I usually am up by 5 am. Since I'm retired, I can take a nap after lunch and then I try to stay up until at least 10 pm before I go to bed. Occasionally I fall asleep watching TV in the evening and that can mean I need to stay up until I'm sleepy between 11pm to midnight--and then I'll be able to sleep through until 5 am or so.

With that schedule, I usually get 7-8 hours sleep in 24 hours.

I do get out to walk the dog several times/day. Have you been able to get outside for a walk during the day? Regular exercise will help with sleeping, as long as you don't do it in the evening before bed.

I have been very sedentary. I have not left my apartment in 2 months. I have always been nocturnal, but if I got more exercise, I think I would have an easier time sleeping at night.

I have never been an early riser, even as a child, so it's not my nature and I don't think I will ever be a natural morning person. Even when I was a year-round athelete, it was always difficult for me to get to sleep early and wake up early. I think some of us are just wired a certain way.

I had a post a while ago, but I have these myoclonic/hypnic jerks when I am falling asleep in the evening which makes it hard to fall and stay asleep until I am completely exhausted, which is usually late morning. It's a common thing, but very bothersome. It would be most natural for me to go to sleep at around 3am and wake around 11am or Noon.
